“Welcome to my house. Come freely. Go safely; and leave something of the happiness you bring."
Who would've thought such a happy, cheery quote came from Bram Stoker's Dracula?!
You've stumbled upon my blog of adventures. I don't discriminate here. Adventures can come in all shapes and sizes; big, small, long, short. But no matter what the size of my adventures, they bring happiness into my life, so I thought I would share them (with whoever wants to read about them) and hopefully inspire you to take your own adventures.
Let me tell you a bit about myself. My name's Alice and I am originally from the city of Bristol, UK. I graduated from university in June 2013 with a degree (2:1 - woohoo) in Anthropology. For those of you who aren't aware of what anthropology is, it is the study of humans and human culture. I learnt a lot about the evolution of humans; dabbled in a bit of archaeology here and there; but what really took my interest was conservation and international development, which I hopefully will one day pursue.
From the age of 3 I have travelled abroad; be it only in Europe but I was still experiencing a totally different culture (even if I didn't know it).
I spent at least 15 of my summers in France for 3 glorious weeks. My aunt married a Frenchman so we would go over to visit and divulge into the French culture. I remember a Saturday lunchtime turned into a 5 hour meal. Suffice to say I was not hungry by dinnertime…
I would also love going to the French markets or sit in a cafe and just people watch. I remember going to a French market in Montalivet and seeing the men at the oyster bars, tearing a baguette to pieces, sipping on wine and wearing a beret on top. As stereotypical as that sounds, it is no word of a lie! I think one of the best things about travelling away from your home life and culture that you are used to, is taking time out to stop and watch. It truly is incredible what you see and experience.
My travels have taken me to 7 countries in Europe, 5 in Africa, 1 in Asia and the United States (and no I don't count Wales & Scotland. They are a part of the United Kingdom, which I also haven't counted as I am from there). I get a satisfying feeling when I look at my passport and see all those stamps, so losing it would devastate me. Consequently, due to all my travelling, an aim of mine is to visit 30 countries by 30. I'm half-way there and with a few trips in the pipeline, hopefully I'll reach that goal by 2020.
So that's enough about me! You'll soon discover what I like to get up to from my blog posts and I look forward to sharing my adventures with you =)
